The Poetry Stroll

This guided literary walking tour explores James Joyce’s Dublin through poetry and music, using the artist’s footsteps as a compass through the city. While best known as a writer, Joyce was also a singer and a poet, and it is through this lens that we encounter his world: Dublin at the beginning of the twentieth century.

As we walk the streets and visit the places that shaped him, the stroll shines a light on Joyce’s artistic aspirations, creative life and places he later immortalised in Dubliners, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, and Ulysses.

New music: Songs from a Shed

This piece is part of my Songs from a Shed series, where I record original songs and poetry put to music.

The poem ‘The Faed Fia’ by Irish poet Susan L. Mitchell (1866–1926), set to music. The title Faed Fia translates from Irish to English as 'deer’s cry' or 'deer’s outcry,' but in Irish mythology it also refers to a magical mist or veil used for concealment or invisibility, perhaps echoed in this poem as 'God’s curtain.'

I composed music for this poem in honour of the centenary of Susan L. Mitchell’s passing in March 2026. The work is connected to an event I was involved in with members of the George Russell Society, held at the United Arts Club in Dublin.
